MOTOSHOP TONOUCHI XS

 MOTOSHOP TONOUCHI XS

Eric Waterfall Interviews Tono of MOTOSHOP TONOUCHI.

After posting Numa’s xs-half-fairing, Eric shot me an e-mail to say that he speaks Japanese and would be willing to help out with some translating. He was able to get in contact with Tono of MOTOSHOP TONOUCHI to get the scoop on this sick XS650 CHOPPER.  If you guys dig this one I think Eric may be doing another Guest post soon.

Eric Waterfall - We have material!  I called Tono the other day to see if anything was going on and he was quite apologetic.  He totally spaced sending me the info and pics.  I got this this morning.  Though there isnt much info in the email, over the phone he said there is an XS650 “mania” going on in Japan right now.

Everybody wants and is buying up the XS.  As for used XS’, they go anywhere from 3 to 5 thousand dollars. Thats right, $3K to $5K AMERICAN!  Good ol’ Japan. The carbs on the bike are 34mm flatsides.  The fork covers were bought on eBay from Bates Vintage.  Thats really the only info he gave me on the bike.  He’s since built his own XS650 and its SICK.

Blackwidow-”WOW 3-5k for an xs650 thats crazy” That is exactly what I said to Eric. I think I know what you’re thinking though, you wouldn’t be able to make any money exporting. Import duties and shipping would kill it. haha.

reynoldburton- I am not sure, but I think the discs are custom-made. Check out MOTOSHOP TONOUCHI blog. The links up top.

anyone else notice that it looks like the whole hardtail is a bolt on affair? maybe to switch it back to suspension for inspections?

    November 10th, 2009 at 12:57 am
  26. Scott said:

I believe it is a bolt-on hardtail. Look at his blog. I cant read japaneese but it does say xs650 and has a whole bolton section. You can see where it bolts on in the pic of the bike matches that section on his blog.

    @ CAPTAIN AWESOME
I noticed the appearance of a bolt on section to. If you look close by the key ignition under the seat is a little dots where he could be sliding in a connection. I guess I will have to learn Japanese and ask TONO.

I just confirmed that it is illegal in Japan to ride a hardtail motorcycle on public roads. So, it makes sense that it is a bolt-on hardtail.
