“2nd Chance” by Cannonball Custom Cycles
- 32

This bike was in pretty bad shape when I bought it. The guy I bought it from was trying to build it and gave up. Good thing he did because it was looking pretty sketchy. I fixed the frame up and started re building everything. I added a 21 front wheel and a 18 rear, wrapped them with some new tires. Used the front stock fender for the rear, built up some mid controls and new handlebars, shaved the mounts off the fork.

How long have you been building bikes and is Cannonball Custom Cycles your main gig?
I have been building bikes for 7 years now and Cannonball Custom Cycles has been my main gig for 4 years. This is my 4th XS650 full build, shop bike first, rat race second, black mamba third and now 2nd chance. However I have done about 4 partial xs builds for other customers.

How long did this bike take to build?
This bike took about 2 months to build.

It looks like you sandblasted the Rams?
Yeah the rims were walnut blasted, in order to get all the rust off and make both rims look an even color. I was going to powdercoat the rims until I saw how cool they looked after they were blasted.
Is the engine rebuilt?
The engine is fully stock, besides pipes and re jetted and tuned carbs.

Is there anything that we wouldn’t notice by just looking at the pics?

great bike!
which hardtail kit is this or is it custom built?
what are the wheel makes/model? would love to get those exact wheels.
Bike looks awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot. The hardtail was actually on the bike when I got it, not sure what brand it is. The rear wheel is from a early model XS and the front is off of a late 90′s Suzuki dirt bike.
Sweet lookin scooter very nice clean build, thanks for sharing!
Jap Slap
Great looking Bike!!!
almost exactly the style of bike i want to build soon!
I like the exhaust set up… all around nice bike!!!
another hardtail and a peanut tank…… nice ride but just just like everyone elses! nice job!
Perfect for your Bobber or Old Skool Chopper. South Side Kustoms has VINTAGE GRIPS IN STOCK and ready to ship!
Nice and clean.
a little too typical for me, but an awesome job on the build. Clean. Simple. It’s great.
Nice,Clean,Simple.a sweet no bullshit bike.
Typical was kind of what I was going for, I wanted something to appeal to the masses since im trying to sell it. Unfortunately buyers dont seem to like original or new idea stuff.
Proceeds from the sales go to send free CD’s to our Troops overseas and to help our wounded warriors through the recovery process.
Nice bike! Very clean
Is that safe to just have a rear drum brake for stopping. I would be alittle unsure at high speeds?
Yeah… a typical build, but it’s a widely done style for a reason… it’s just so damn clean and simple. This bike looks like a great example of that tried and true design.
love the handle bars. sick
Nice bike just clean and simple
nice bike, may i ask how you went about doing your wiring. to keep it so clean and simple looking?
Thanks everyone,
atvjustin, The majority of the wiring is held in the fake oil tank under the seat.
I agree, super clean.
Question on the front wheel, Did you find bearings to mate it to the stock front axle or get a new axle made. I was planning on using a 21 that i have but not sure how to solve this issue and haven’t found a bearing with a correct id/od to fit the stock axle.
Pete,
Yes I just found a wheel that had bearings to fit the stock axle, I believe that it was off of a late 90′s suzuki dirtbike if that helps at all.
Hey Ryan I stopped by one day and I think you were trying to sort out the pieces of this bike and decide what to do with it,and if its the same machine, very cool job, cant wait to have you put my hard tail on my bike, the suns shining time to ride!!!
Hey Mark,
Yeah this is that bike. How is your bike coming?
I’m still draggin my feet on the motor, but I hope to have it in the frame and running by next week.
what mirror is that? I would like to run one like that
do you guys mainly do xs650s and metric scoots? awsome bike!
Hi Ryan,
Fantastic looking bike. My question is about your rear fender, what did you do to the tangs you cut from each side. This left a rough edge compared to the rest which is smooth and has an rolled over edge. Thanks
Marcel
lil bastard, yeah I mainly do metric bikes. I have been doing a lot of XS’s lately.
Marcel, just cleaned it up real good, you cant really see it the way the fender is mounted.
cool xs. I was gonna an RM125 front wheel and was wondering if you still had the measurements from the front spacers for the “second chance” bike. thanks
Shawn, No I sold that bike, I dont have the measurements. Sorry.
this is a really clean nice looking bike
