What’s Up XS650chopper?

Hi XS650 Chopper, It’s been a few days since I’ve updated this site with new posts and I thought I’d let you guys know what’s going on. I’ve been rebuilding the backend of the website optimizing our database and rebuilding a number of things. I’ve also been working on a brand-new site design which will include a bunch of new features you guys have asked for.

So, if you send in pictures in the past couple weeks and don’t see them on the site yet it’s because I’ve been waiting to publish them until the new design is live. I am setting on a stockpile of XS650’s that will be posted up very soon including some really sick monthly feature xs650’s which I think even some of you critical mofo will appreciate. We’ve posted a new bike almost every single day for the past year straight and I plan for that constant flow of bike’s to continue.

It’s also been awhile since I’ve post any updates of my own xs650’s. Both of my bikes are very close to being finished and I hope to have some pictures to post up with in the next couple months to show you guys what I’ve been building.

Here’s a list of the Top 8 Subscribed to Posts of all time..

  1. Boardchop By R.T. Choppers
  2.  Fong Bros Basic Black Bike
  3. 78 xs650 in Progress
  4.  XS650 in the Clutch
  5. Jason Harrill’s XS650
  6. Another TC bros tail and sporty tank COMPLETE!
  7. 1979 XS650 from Winnipeg
  8.  WSDMoto – Custom 1979 Yamaha XS650 Bobber

Thanks for supporting the site..

  13. CruzBoos says:

    Phew! … Ted’s not dead!
I was wondering if one of his creations turned around and bit him or if he was nursing some road rash. All this time he’s just making a new brew for the boys and girls in his shed, with his bag of tricks.
How many addicts out there were thinking like all of the above and are just twitching for another of Ted’s brews and salivating over some new pix of hot ideas from the brains of XS freaks.I can’t wait for an update.
So as time goes by, day by day, I’ll whittle away and slave on a creature, that will soon be born to creep into the dreams and nightmares of all how gaze upon her.
Keep stirring the pot TED and let it boil HOT!

  20. Jon says:

Can’t wait for the new site to launch. I check this site almost daily to see the new bikes. Thanks for such a great site and look forward to the new site launch.

  21. Ted says:

Things are moving forward – I’ve hired a developer to help me get this thing up and running with the new design. It turned out to be a little bit more work than I anticipated but things are moving forward. I’m anxious to get the new site launched to.

This site has grown rather large with over 1600 posts and thousands and thousands of photos. Making major changes to this site is like trying to put a new engine in your bike driving down the road at 60 miles an hour.

  22. mike lytle says:

Ted…you had a site that was much like a stock xs 650……purring down the road at 65……never missing a beat…….you looked at it and it was good!!!…….but then the evil chopper gods looked down on you……..”TED CHOP IT” cut the bitch in half and make it bitchin……..rock on Ted….you”re the MAN

so, Ted, is the site back up to speed?

  27. james says:

Really dig this sight, so what’s up ?

  28. james says:

I guess I should read before commenting. Looking forward to see the new sight and all the new pics and ideas. Keep on rocking Ted, it’s the best best 650 sight goin’.

  29. chris says:

hi ya ted, when will the improvments to the site be ready

  30. michael says:

can’t wait to see the new site….i can imagine it’s taking a little more effort than expected…cheers and keep up the good work!

  31. mike lytle says:

so Ted………..you didn’t hire that moron Al Gore to fix the site……….DID YOU?????????

  32. mike lytle says:

    Ya………I know………yap!

  33. Ted says:

The first developer I hired to help me was in over his head and flaked out on me after the first week.

I hired a second developer who has an awesome portfolio; however things just keep dragging on. The design is mostly done – it’s just getting everything pushed live which is taking time. I look forward to getting this site finished – It’s taking way too long. I’m doing everything I can to make it happen.

  34. michael says:

yo- jonesing to see the new site…..i know how much work it can be and patient but still jonesing- i keep checking everyday to see if it’s launched…cheers and keep up all the good work!

  35. DENNI$ says:

Those developers are known to be flakey….. not like bike builders at ALL!!! Keep going Ted!!

  36. scuzzball says:

holy cow it is taking a while

hang in there ted great site

  37. davethewrench says:

Great to see the site back up Ted…Thanx Bro

  38. pratstyle says:

hoping the site goes live soon.. i looked forward to seeing updates every morning..hope things are well … cheers

  39. Ted says:

Yeah so, we continue to have setbacks in the development of the new site.

It’s one thing after another, but I think it’s worth taking the time to fix everything right and make the improvements now so site last and it continues to grow for years. The design now is basically the same design that the site launched with over three years ago – its way past time for design and software upgrades..

I’m sitting on a huge stockpile of really sick xs650’s – I can wait to get this new site launched.. it will happen —- eventually.

  40. Jon Hightower says:

Hello there, I am new to the site (Just found it today), and I want to build a Bobber! An XS650 to be exact. So since this is the XS site, I thought you would be a pretty good source for info. A little background first I think. I had a 650 special way back in the early 80’s, long before I even heard the term “Bobber”. I sold it (As we all do), just prior to getting married. I haven’t had a bike since, sad, but true. But after raising kids, divorce, and now a new life overseas (Currently in the Philippines) I want to get in the wind again. And I have a very specific putt in mind. The XS650, Bobber style. I wish to build it myself, so I need a little help as to where to find a donor bike (Or motor), a source for a kit (Frame/tank/controls etc.) and all the parts I will need upfront to get started. I know this is a lot to ask, but in appreciation I would document the build on your site as well as give my thoughts as a first time builder, discuss issues I run into and so forth. I hope you can help, and I look forward to your reply!

  41. mike lytle says:

Jon………if you look through this site (this will take you a few days, as there is a few hundred pages) and can’t find the answers to ALL of your questions………you just aren’t looking………

  42. mike lytle says:

    Ted has left the building………………….

  43. Papa Longo says:

Ted, is there anything us followers can do to help?

I have some web knowledge along with adobe skills…

    email me if you do…

  44. Matt Dunn says:

Im gonna die. Need more eye candy. Thisis the only site I really frequent

  45. Ted says:

@ Papa Longo – Thanks man, I appreciate! it’s been a long frustrating process of updating the site. mainly because I ended up wasting an entire month dealing with an incompetent programmer. I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt and it wastes a months time.

Me and the current developer are making daily progress. The new site design is super clean and minimalist but with a bunch of new features. It will kick ass!

  46. Papa Longo says:

No problems Ted, have used this site for inspiration for both my 650 projects ( there loooong haul so will post them when done… ) really lookin forward to seein the new site. Keep goin!!!

  47. spambot says:

I’m looking forward to the new site! I check in every day.

  48. Joshua says:

    I need my fix!!!!!!!!!

  49. Qball says:

  50. CruzBoos says:

Just getting a taste of the new site and looking to grab a slice!
So … Ted … let’s see what we’ve all missed and start filling this baby, with those curves that define beauty standing still.

  51. fboomer says:

  55. Cyclopat says:

Are we having fun yet ?

  56. catbag says:

“brand-new site design which will include a bunch of new features you guys have asked for. ”

The new site design looks good. I can’t wait for the new bike posts.

  57. catbag says:

I really like the new clean design of the site.

  58. El Gaucho says:

WOW, the new site is wayyyy different. It’ll take some getting used to, but I can already see features that weren’t there before, so it should be much better once I get familiar with it.

  59. Jonnth says:

YES! Love the new design. Now we got to get some new bikes posted up!

  60. DENNI$ says:

Just checking. Will my email go thru? are there bikes being posted that I can’t see? Am I still a ‘member’?

  61. Josh says:

I’m jonesin’ for some new builds to look at. This site is the reason I bought and built an xs650. I’ve come here almost daily for 2 or 3 years to drool over my favorites and see new posts. Am I missing something? Is it so different that I’m not seeing new posts? I like the new look but damn, I miss seeing new posts..

  62. chris says:

hi ted like the new look of the site, but had enough of looking at lanespliter(great bike) but need some new posts

  63. mr bkc says:

i cant find a search function. i have to google bikes i want to see then follow link to its page here. bring back the search please so i can stop using google to get to my fave bikes on here

  64. Ted says:

I agree Chris – I guarantee some awesome new posts very soon. the new site design took way longer than I anticipated – I am in the process of finishing up testing.

  65. Ted says:

mr bkc – I didn’t think anybody was using the search function.

I will probably be adding it back in. But, what do you need for? What are you searching for and why not just use the sidebar category links? if you give me some more information on what you’re doing it’ll help improve the site.

    Thanks

Did you see the new monthly feature section?
    http://www.xs650chopper.com/category/monthly-feature/

  66. Ted says:

I’ll have some new posts up very soon – I wish the site design and testing didn’t take so long but it is what it is. The entire site has been rebuilt and moved to new hardware and it took a lot of work.

You can subscribe and get e-mails when new bikes are posted here.

  68. Dave says:

Hey Ted. Great site. You’ve been asking for suggestions and feedback. First thing is you have no central point of contact (or am I missing something?). People don’t really have anywhere to post except as comments. Stick an email address up and I’m sure you get much more feedback. I have a few suggestions. Did I say great site BTW?

  69. Ted says:

Hi Dave, Thanks – “First thing is you have no central point of contact (or am I missing something?). ”

Dude, there is a huge link on the homepage and on every post that says “POST UP YOUR XS650 Pics. Click Here”

It links to the send-in-your-pics page – which has a huge submission form.

    http://www.xs650chopper.com/send-in-your-pics/

Do you seriously not see it? I hope nobody else is missing it..haha. We do get new e-mails everyday.

Definitely let me know if you have any other suggestions.

You can also e-mail me directly at

    email@xs650chopper[dot]com

    Thanks

  70. will says:

Can any body please tell me where i can get a stator/genorator for my 81 xs650? i cant go 3 miles without it dying on me. it doesnt hold anycharge i love the bike but i cant find what i need so im about to sell please help me keep my baby

  71. Dave says:

    Hi there

Don’t take this the wrong way.

When you say “doesn’t hold any charge” it is the battery which holds the charge. There are two systems here, the system that creates the charge “the charging system” and the bit that stores it, your battery. The battery should show 12V but should maintain that voltage when current is being drawn from it. If it doesn’t you may need a new one or at least sorting the one you have. Get your battery checked out first as a A garage or bike shop may do it for nothing or at least very cheaply. Having sorted that out take a look at your charging system. You will need a multimeter. With luck you will only need new carbon brushes. If you need to ask questions you really need to try a forum. Here is a link to someone answering better than I can the same problem you have

I can’t really tell you where to get help as I don’t know where you are but if you email me at david.otoole[at]blueyonder.co.uk I can let you know where I get parts and suggest somewhere which will suit you. All the best. Dave

  72. Cyclopat says:

    yup

    Thanks for the blog, Ted

  73. Ted says:
