My first Bobber

Write about your XS650.: I just picked this bike up on Saturday as my first project. It’s a 1980 XS650 Special. I got it for 800 bucks and it only has 10,000 miles on it. I already have springer forks in the works and I’m planning on hard-tailing it, and the engine shall be rebuilt, ported, and polished (since it’s sat under a tarp for 12 yrs). I was wondering if anyone has any Ideas, tips, or info on good places to find parts. I’ll post more pics as the project progresses.
lowbrow customs

A Big Welcome to Lowbrow Customs. Lowbrow Just came on as a sponsor here at xs650chopper.com which is pretty cool. Lowbrow has a large selection of parts for guys that built their own bikes. “Lowbrow Customs strive to gather the best in hard-to-find parts, helmets, apparel, DVDs and magazines in one place for the home-built motorcycle, hot rod and van enthusiast. Enjoy” I think they fit in good with the site and have a lot to offer. Check out some Do It Yourself – Tech Tips from Lowbrow Customs. xs650chopper.com will also be working with Lowbrow to do some cool stuff in the future.
no time, no money, no problem
Plans are to ride to the living hell out of it
The bike is a 1977 XS650 I bought after realizing my involvement in the car scene was getting a little rich for my blood. Found the bike on craigs as a late 70’s bondo machine with a way-out front end and no motor. Was just a roller and not pretty to boot…perfect! Started stripping the bondo off while looking for a motor and front end and ended up finding the numbers matching motor laying in someones shed covered in weed wacker parts, stuffed it in while the wife and kids were sleepin… Actually everything was more or less done when the wife and kids were sleeping come to think of it….patterned and sprayed the tank, made the sissy bar, taillight, lowered and polished the front end, made the batt box, modded the seat/fender to fit, wiring etc etc…..all in the ghetto garage with mostly primitive tools….been a long time coming but i’ve been riding the hell out of it and its been worth the wait…quick as sh!t and loud as all hell….f*ck cages Read More
get the lowdown: Hans from Holland

Hey gearheads, I know it’s been awhile but here’s a new column right out of Holland.
Reasons for that is I’ve got another job, and spending more time to ride than to write…
Last months been to several bikeshows, meetings and so on. Read More
My First Tracke

Write about your XS650.: I bought the bike last summer and rode it around for a little bit. I kinda lost interest until this spring when i got nuts about it. Hacked up the frame, cut off all the tabs and crap i didnt need. Already had flat track bars on it. Bought an 19 in front and 18 in rear wheel. Got some Dunlop rubbers. Got the seat from a guy on ebay, I think its hot wing glass. Pipes are from Gary Hoos racing and are so loud, I love it. Cleaned the carbs and re-jetted them. Read More

New T-Shirt Are In!
New T-shirts finally came yesterday..

The new T-shirts came in yesterday and I’m super stoked at how they turned out. The print quality came out excellent and the T-shirt fit is perfect. I buy a lot of black T-shirts and only about a quarter of them actually fit good. I’m glad I decided to go with premium quality Tees. The lettering on the shirt graphic was based off Derek from Mulligan machines earlier logo he did for the site. (Thanks Derek) I enlisted the help of Dwight a pro-Illustrator & Graphic Designer from Canada. I really dig Dwight’s style and he really understood what I was going for with the design. Check out his lowbrow illustrations on his blog. I gave Dwight the general idea of the illustration I had in mind and after a few tweaks to his sketches it was perfect. What do you guys think? Let me know by buying one or two! I’ve had guys e-mail and offer to make a donation to the site (which I appreciate) but I thought I’d give capitalism a try first. So, support capitalism, support the xs650chopper.com project and get a sweet shirt. I think that’s a pretty good deal.

Pangea pulverizer part 2
Decided that the road was calling
Hello, my name is Andy carter, my home is salt lake city Utah. A few of you have probably seen the first installment of the “pangea pulverizer”. I thought i would talk a little about how i got into all this stuff.
Growing up my parents owned a rapid prototyping / industrial design company named metropolis design. I grew up working at metropolis design. We had a machine shop, welding gear, wood shop, and pretty much any other tool imaginable right there at our fingertips. That being said my brother and i had allot of really good opportunities to build some cool stuff. Read More
“Rat Race” by Cannonball Custom Cycles

Write about your XS650.: This bike was built for my good friend Taylor.
It started out as a stock 1979 xs650, I cut it up and welded on a TCbros hardtail. Took the stock wheels and powder coated them black, wrapped those in some avon whitewalls. Read More
