David Munoz – XS650 RACER

THIS IS MY SECOND PROJECT BIKE THAT I AM BUILDING. THIS IS A COMPLETE GROUND UP ONE OFF PROJECT. I SALVAGED A 1977 FRAME AND CHOPPED IT UP TO ADAPT AN XS400 SECA REAR SWING ARM WITH A TRIUPH REAR SHOCK. THE FORKS ARE FROM AN 80 XS1100 WITH CUSTOM 06 R1 ROTORS IN THE FRONT AND BACK.

I USED 19 INCH MAG WHEELS IN THE FRONT AND BACK. I MACHINED MY OWN TRIPLE CLAMPS, CLIP-ONS, HEADLIGHT BRACKET, SEAT BRACKET,AND REAR SETS.

THIS IS A SLOW PROJECT BUT I WILL POST PICS WHEN THE BUILD IS COMPLETE.

  2. Jonathond says:

That is pretty bad ass! Kind of a cafe fighter thing going on!

  3. Will says:

Thats cool! I think the rearsets need to be higher up on the frame.

  4. Fabbastard says:

Nice one so far, how much of the 400xs frame did you have to use or did you rig it up your self?

  5. Felonious Phil says:

Please have Dave Munoz e-mail me. I liked his mods and wish too learn from them…

  6. RatCHop says:

Neat lookin build, however I dont see anything Cafe about it? Please explain your reason for calling it this?

  7. Jonathond says:

The cafe racer is a motorcycle that has been modified for speed and good handling rather than comfort.

  8. fanoboss says:

    very cool

  9. mookie says:

cool- some clearer pics sure would be nice to see.i’ve done a similar swingarm set up but with an R6 shock. what shock is that again?
could we see the rearsets and the shock plate up close?

  10. mookie says:

by the way- the swing arm from the XS400 SR/SJ is what you want IF your into this sort of thing. you’ll need to cut the frame bosses flush with the inner frame plate.
shock length is the next hurdle then spring rate.pimpn aint easy…

  11. fanoboss says:

Pimpin’ ain’t easy…neither is whorin’. I damn near starved to death,LOL. I love the swing-arm conversion and would love to do this on a tracker or brat. Do you have the ability to post videos so we can see the ride in action ? thanks

  12. JOEL MEKOLITES says:

what did it take to get the 19″ rim on the back? is it a stock xs650 rear 19″ mag or a front?

  13. Radford119 says:

Don’t know if this is it, but Omar’s Dirt Track Racing sells a 19″ rear conversion kit.
