78 xs650 in Progress

My 1978 XS 650 Bratstyle work in progress. I picked this bike up for $150 dollars in an older gentlemans barn, took it home and immediately started working.

I welded in a Visual Impact brat kit that I picked up from them. Still a work in progress but let me know what you think.

Looks great so far I like the over all look, no rear fender huh? That might get old after riding in the rain once man but I’ll leave that to you, killer deal to!

  2. Stephan from Germany, Bochum says:

    Really nice bike!

What type of handlebar (incluse mass) is it? And is there an online shop to buy this handlebar?

    Best regards

  3. greg says:

Screw the fender! Just put your stuff in a ziplock baggie and roll out! But seriously dude thanks for letting me see that visual impact rear, gonna take my frame to em to get it done. Great job!

  4. fanoboss says:

Very cool brat. The color is poppin’. Is that powder coat or can?

  5. Joel says:

Nice scooter! That brat kit looks killer! Did you extend the swingarm? How much?

  6. Brian says:

Paint is House of Kolor Brandywine Metallic w/ a touch of gold flake. Swing arm is factory (no extension). Handlebars are ebay “superbike” bars. Rear fender is in the works just trying to figure out the best way to mount one. That’s what I love about building a bike, “the unknowns”. Thanks guys for all the comments.

  7. Lil'John says:

What brand of seat is that…it matches the curve great!

  8. Barney says:

    Nice clean bike. Good job!

  9. patrix says:

VERY SOLID LOOKING RIDE……has that “tough little nut” look!! VERY impressive!

  10. Brian says:

Seat Pan is an ebay special from Sinister Seats, then I had a local upholstery shop cover it. Thanks again for the comments.

  11. patrick says:

looks awsome fanfreakingtastic.. love the look what rear shocks are you running im going for a similar look ..

  12. visimpacct says:

Looks great so far. Details look great. Nice job!

  13. Brian says:

The shocks are stock, but I am going to change them to the Honda rebel 250 chrome rear shocks. I’m currently wiring and finishing the smaller details but I will post more pictures as it comes along. Thanks guys.

  14. Ole bastard says:

” Like the paint work.” But me;I like semi black. Very nice job,”clean”.

  15. Voodoo Timm says:

really diggin your bike man. did you lower the front forks?

  16. louie says:

nice ride are those stock rear shocks or after market and what kind and length

  17. Got556 says:

Looks awesome and I’m going to be running fenderless front and rear and using a Visual Impact brat kit. Was wondering a couple things.

    -Are your front forks lowered?

-Are you running only a back brake?

-What tires and sizes are you using?

  18. Mike says:

    Sweet ride!! Need more pics!!

  19. Zeke says:

Love love the bike it totally looks like what I’m doing to mine. I also did the brat and that’s where I am with frame stripped. I been looking and looking for a tank to put on it and that one looks sweet. What kind of tank is that? Thanks for the pics

  20. Brian says:

Tank is a Harley Sporty tank stripped and repainted. I no longer have the bike but I did finish it and sold it. I am currently building another one. Thanks for checking it out and leaving comments.
